We started working with Elise the summer between our daughters second and third grade years and it has be an absolute pleasure, with tangible results. Elise took her time to understand the best learning style for our child while simultaneously employing proven learning strategies that not only help improve her skills (in mathematics, English and Spanish) but increased our daughters confidence and engagement with the different subject areas. Outside of the time they spend together, Elise has been a fantastic communicator with my wife and I, writing us frequently about what she's working on with our daughter, how she is progressing and areas to spend additional time on. She has also kept up to date on what's happening in our child's classroom, to make sure there is a healthy level of coordination in her entire learning experience, augmenting where appropriate and accelerating when it makes sense. We look forward to working with Elise over the coming years and could not have asked for a better person to be spending time with and working with our daughter- Parent of third grader
My fourth grader had a wonderful experience this spring with online math groups with Elise. Elise is a gifted math educator who was incredibly responsive to both my son's strengths and challenges. He loved class because of Elise's focus on mathematical thinking, problem solving, and real life applications. As someone who's quick with calculations, he really benefited from how this approach stretched his thinking. Elise's approach makes math really engaging; she builds on kids' interests, pushes kids to explain their thinking and consider alternative strategies, and teaches skills in context. I'm a professor of education who has observed a lot of classrooms over the years and I have been really impressed.

GREAT CLASS!! DEFINITELY should take it if you are at all interested in becoming more active as an anti racist, or even learning about the path that racism has traveled, and who has fought it! I really like the whole curriculum! I loved how each week we would read a certain amount of chapters, and then answer questions about the chapters we read!! It really made me absorb what I was reading A LOT more than I would normally if not for the list of questions!

This is a class that provides you with a big amount of information on Black Civil Rights history, with children's books, lots of class discussions, and taking a deep dive into one person you choose.

I would recommend this program to other schools and students. It was evident throughout the course that students had a bunch of questions surrounding race. Students are exposed to racism on TV and throughout social media, I assume some students are unable to talk with their parents about such topics. This course allowed students to express themselves as well as a platform to discuss difficult topics. Elise and Sharon explain civil rights in a way that is comfortable and easily understandable for eleven and twelve year old students.

Sadly, it was my involvement with local schools that made the racial disparities in this area glaringly obvious to me. I moved to this area about 6 years ago, and felt an obligation to my son to educate him on racial injustice in history and in our neighborhood. I wanted you to know that your class means a lot to me personally, and is helping with this intense sense of obligation and commitment to educate him on something truly important. His father and I are so jealous that we can’t join :), and are incredibly impressed with how much our son has learned. Not just on the subject matter, but also on presenting and providing him an arena to learn he has a voice.
